Offspring of American Pharoah being birthed at Pa. farm
CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Do you remember April the Giraffe?
Over a million people tuned in to watch her give birth at a zoo in New York in 2017.
Now, farm owner Mike Reid looks to capture that same magic in Chester County with the birth of a foal of one of the most famous stallions on the planet – American Pharoah.
In 2015, American Pharoah became the first horse since 1978 to win the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing and now he’s going to be a father.
The mother of American Pharoah’s future offspring is High Quail, who is a 2006 mare by Tiznow.
The due date is Saturday, but a 24/7 livestream has been set up for viewers who want to follow the pregnancy and birth.
"To say that everyone here is excited about the birth would be an understatement. This is our way of sharing that excitement with the rest of the world," said Reid. "Some folks have even suggested throwing a baby shower. In my 45 years in the industry, I've never attended a horse baby shower, but I'm open to ideas for what that might be."The gender of the foal has not been revealed.
