UPS driver murdered inside delivery truck

IRVINE, Calif. (TND) — A 50-year-old man who worked for UPS as a delivery driver was shot and killed inside his delivery truck.

Expedito Cuesta De Leon was found slumped over in the driver's seat when police responded to the area of an industrial park in Irvine after they received multiple reports of gunshots Thursday afternoon.

De Leon had multiple gunshot wounds and died from his injuries, stated Irvine police.

The victim was reportedly on his lunch break when he was shot.

Authorities went on a manhunt for 46-year-old Rhean Fontanoza.

Fontanoza was eventually arrested in connection to De Leon's murder.

Surveillance video showed Fontanoza's vehicle pulling up to De Leon's delivery truck and then fleeing the scene.

A countywide broadcast was given for the suspect vehicle described as a silver Honda Ridgeline 4-door truck with a black truck bed liner and black rims.

Orange County sheriff's deputies found the suspect vehicle on Santiago Canyon Road hours after De Leon was found by police.

Irvine Police SWAT took Fontanoza into custody after a standoff.

A KABC new team in a helicopter showed shots being fired where Fontanoza's vehicle was found. Local media reports indicated that a K9 helped pull the murder suspect out of the truck.

"Shots are being fired from multiple directions," said a reporter who witnessed the standoff.

Fontanoza was reportedly injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police investigators believe De Leon and Fontanoza were acquaintances. A motive for the slaying is not known at this time, stated police.

Police thanked the community and provided support for the victim's family. "Our hearts are with the victim and his loved ones," the department wrote on Facebook.
