Stoystown celebrates 250th anniversary
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A kick-off event was held Thursday night in Somerset County to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Stoystown.
The celebrations took place at the Stoystown Historical Society.
State representatives Carl Metzgar and Pat Stefano were in attendance to highlight the city's history.
Some events that are planned for this year in Stoystown are a basket party at the American Legion on April 28th and the town's annual Memorial Day parade at the historical society.
"Being that it was in a spot where transportation went through here kept it viable for many years of course, as the bigger highways and turnpikes came through and stuff, it diminished and become more of a bedroom community now,” says David Fox, president of the Stoystown Area Historical Society.
Some of the other historical events in Stoystown that were mentioned include the Lincoln Highway coming through town and being part of the air traffic for Flight 93 before it crashed in Shanksville.
