Steve Burton Leaving as Harris Michaels Is Out
Well, it looks like Salem’s newest cop may soon end up as a casualty now that we’ve just learned that Steve Burton has finished filming over at Days of Our Lives. The show surprised us all when, over on Beyond Salem: Chapter 2, Burton’s first daytime character Harris Michaels popped up after more than 30 years.

At the time, he was wrapped up in the building Bo and Hope drama as Megan’s brainwashed henchman. A little more than half a year later in 2023, he made the jump over to the main show and stuck around in Salem even after “Bope” made their tragic exit.
Now, though, Daily Drama — which hosts the podcast of Burton and General Hospital‘s Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) — shared the news that Burton finished taping at Days of Our Lives just before the holidays. When he joined, Burton signed a one-year contract with the show, but that’s apparently finished up. So while we know Harris is exiting, there’s probably another five or six months of scenes left before he makes his exit on-screen!
Harris soon went from Navy SEAL to Salem PD, meeting Ava and quickly building a romance with her — though that’s already been cut short and it looks like it’ll never quite get the chance to take off!
There’s no word on how Harris is going out, but we do know from the big season preview that he’ll be shot. That’ll likely have some connection to Ava and Stefan’s drug business, but seeing as how that preview was filmed before Burton finished wrapping, chances are Harris will survive that encounter and end up with another reason for leaving Salem. Then again, this is Days of Our Lives and there’s always the chance he could stick around as a ghost as Ava mourns yet another lost love, gunned down too soon!
“Wow,” he began in a YouTube video shared by Daily Drama. “Well, I just shot my final scenes here on Days of Our Lives and I just want to say, thank you so much to the cast, to the crew, to Days. It’s been amazing. I can’t believe it’s been a year already! So thank you so much to the fans. I’m always so full of gratitude.”
So far there’s no word on what’s ahead for the daytime vet, but Burton fans are well aware of his time both as General Hospital’s Jason Morgan and The Young and the Restless‘ Dylan McAvoy.
Where he’ll land next is anyone’s guess, but as Burton himself said at the end of his video: “Stay tuned!”
