Rutherford PBA Members Donning Superhero Garb For Benefit Run

Proceeds from the Oct. 18 event at Memorial Park will benefit the Rutherford Ambulance Corps and Rutherford Fire Department.

“Both organizations are volunteer and rely on donations,” said Rutherford Police Sgt. Craig Capoano, a member of the Rutherford PBA Local 300 who established the event with Officer Scott Ahearn.

“We wanted to do something fun with the community and get our organization out there,” Capoano said as he laced up his sneakers for a run.

Capoano will reprise his role as Captain America in the race, with Ahearn by his side as Superman.

Awards go to those in costume and for the best times in each age bracket.

Preregistration is $25 per runner in advance, or $30 the day of the event. Each participant gets a T-shirt.

There is also a post-race BBQ with local PBA members grilling burgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers and pasta. There will also be a bouncy house for kids, a face painter, a balloon artist and a deejay.

“It’s really something fun to do with the community,” Capoano said.
