9-year-old responsible for false 'active shooter' call at Latrobe Elementary school
LATROBE, Pa (WJAC) — State police say a 9-year-old juvenile was responsible for making a false "active shooter" call on Wednesday at Latrobe Elementary school, according to a press release.
Troopers say a 911 phone call was placed Wednesday afternoon, reporting that several shots had been fired inside the school, resulting in a massive response from several area agencies, including state police and the City of Latrobe police department.
Upon further investigation, police learned that there was no active threat against the school and the identity of the caller was determined to be a 9-year-old juvenile, who made the call intentionally.
Authorities say agencies and law enforcement in Westmoreland County are continuing to investigate the incident, but state police have not announced any charges against the juvenile.
State police commend the job of the Latrobe school district staff in handling the situation and cooperating with police.
