CLEARFIELD - Police in Clearfield County continue to investigate the theft of approximately $40,000 worth of jewelry.

Clearfield Borough police said the incident happened Dec. 14 at Zalno Jewelers on North Third Street around 6:15 p.m.

Officer Nathan Curry said police are currently looking into possible sightings of the group at other jewelry stores to build a timeline.

"Since the actual theft has occurred, we've been working with other agencies to determine if these individuals have been in other areas of Pennsylvania or even other states," Curry said.

Owner Jim Zalno said two of the burglars acted like customers and distracted employees.

“The third person walked in, walked around, opened a case up, took three trays of pendants out of the case and walked out the door,” Zalno said.

Zalno said he’s made numerous phone calls to other jewelry store in the area and along Interstate 80 to warn them.

“We took a loss. I don’t want to see anybody else take a loss,” Zalno said. “With that thought, I called as many as I could find or think of and we’re still notifying some of them as of now (Thursday).”

Zalno said it’s a minor setback, but one that they’ll learn from.

“(Approximately) 99 percent of the people that come in are good people,” Zalno said. “You just go back to the way you were before but pay attention a little more. It brought a lesson to us, nothing like this has every happened before.”

Curry said the group could face felony theft charges.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Clearfield Borough Police Department at 814-765-7819.
