Penn State football players attend fire company fundraiser

An event for the ‘Fuel the Cause’ fundraiser was held today at Nittany MinitMart's Headquarters.

Former Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington and current linebackers Curtin Jacobs and Abdul Carter attended the event to support the cause.

Organizers of the fundraiser say two cents are being donated for every gallon of gas sold at Nittany MinitMart in April and May.

One cent comes from Nittany MinitMart and the other comes from PA skills.

Nittany MinitMart says t-shirts, helmets, pins, and toy firetrucks will be sold to raise money as well.

Former Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington said, “Not nearly enough attention that is raised and put on our men and women of service that fight for our community. It's vital. It's vital to our communities.”

Alpha Fire Company Assistant Chief Shawn Kauffman said, “It's very important that we continue to support these fundraisers so that we can support the volunteer fire companies across Pennsylvania.”

“Every team has to have defense,” Arrington said. “I believe we all know our community's defense is standing right behind us,” referencing local fire fighters.

Kauffman said, “One of the things that's hit us hard recently is the inflation. Inflation doesn't just hit your household it also hits your local volunteer fire company, and we need to make sure we're doing everything we can to support them through donations so we can operate our fire companies on a day-to-day basis.”
