New Rochelle DPW Features Truck Day At Ward Elementary School

Publish date: 2024-06-02

Students had the opportunity to explore the department’s big trucks and at the same time learn about the important role public works plays in the community.

“The men and women of the Department of Public Works provide essential services and are often unseen,” noted Commissioner Alexander Tergis.

"Thank you to Principal Franco Miele and his staff for making it possible to visit the children at Ward today to share a little bit about what we do."

National Public Works Week is a time to recognize the staff of all of the bureaus. The event featured four DPW vehicles: garbage trucks; front-end loaders; backhoe loaders; street sweepers.

DPW workers spoke to eight kindergarten classes about what they do as a career, “Think Safety, Think Smart,” “Slow Down To Get Around” and how their vehicle helps get the job done. Kindergartners embraced the opportunity to touch a truck and see the trucks in action.
