Mom on the run, months after abandoning children in deplorable conditions, police say
ROMAN FOREST, Texas (TND) — A mother accused of abandoning two children, months ago, is on the loose and apparently entertaining thousands of followers on social media.
Police near Houston said Raven Yates left her 12-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son in deplorable conditions with very little food.
There was no food in the house," Roman Forest Police Chief Stephen Carlisle said. "Everything was empty. There was some dry beans and some spices. That's about it.He said in late September, their mother left them, and there has been a warrant out for her arrest since December.
In the meantime, the preteen would call her father, tell him her mother was working, and then he would send food.
But she didn't say anything else. Not even about the "heavy urine odor coming from the 3-year-old's bed."
She was afraid her father was going to take her, and leave the 3-year-old by himself,” the police chief explained. But police said they found out what was going on from the girl's father.
He's reportedly a music producer in California and family members told him they saw Yates in Alabama, where she's from, without her kids.
Police said Yates, 31, has continued posting on social media despite being wanted on two counts of abandoning or endangering a child without intent to return.
A 12-year-old cannot take care of a 3-year-old for a long period of time," the chief said. "It’s dangerous. Especially over a month and a half. It’s dangerous and irresponsible of a parent.Yates reportedly also has a 14-year-old daughter who was reported as a runaway around the time she disappeared. All three children are now safe and living with another family member.
