A Johnstown man who admitted to stealing over $30,000 worth of narcotics from a local pharmacy was sentenced this week.

Officials say Matthew Miller appeared in court on Tuesday where he was sentenced to serve 18 to 36 months in the Cambria County Prison.

Miller pleaded guilty to one felony count of obtaining possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation in December.

Police charged Miller in 2022 after he reportedly admitted to stealing over $30,000 worth of narcotics from the Martella's Pharmacy location, where he was previously employed.

According to the affidavit, Miller was allegedly fired from his job at the pharmacy after multiple staff members reported "discrepancies" in the number of available pills that the pharmacy had in its inventory.

Police say, upon further investigation, Miller was reportedly observed on surveillance video allegedly stealing some of the pills, prompting the pharmacy to conduct an audit of its inventory of narcotics and terminate Miller.

Investigators say the completion of the audit revealed that Miller had allegedly stolen pills from over 100 various bottles of prescription narcotics, including Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Lorazepam and Xanax.

Officials note that Miller was given credit during his sentencing hearing for time served.
