Johnstown Generals Hockey Team plans "Heroes Cup" tournament and basket party
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Johnstown Generals Hockey Team is preparing for their "Heroes Cup" tournament.
It will be held May 21st, 22nd, and 23rd at the War Memorial in Johnstown.
At least six teams will be travelling to Johnstown for the event, which is held in conjunction with the Richland American Legion.
John Kovac, President of the Johnstown Generals, said the teams will be made up of veterans and first responders.
"I don't think there's enough credit given to our first responders," he told 6 News.
"They're the ones there. They're the ones that have seen everything first-hand: overdoses, shootings, house fires. It's always a tragedy," he continued.
Kovac said this tournament is a way to recognize them.
"It's really special to be able to give something back," he said.
The tournament is open to the public and admission is by donation.
Visitors can participate in the basket raffle for $5 per ticket.
Send an email to John Kovac at jpkovac3@gmail.com to donate a basket.
