Johnstown Airport receives funding for new hangar; SFU to collaborate through new program
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — PennDOT has announced a nearly 10-million-dollar state investment in projects at ten airports across the state for facility improvements.
The John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport is getting over one million dollars in funding for site preparation for a new hangar at the airport.
Airport manager Cory Cree says Saint Francis University will be developing an "aircraft maintenance program" at the airport, where students can learn how to become aircraft mechanics.
"It’s also going to construct over 150 parking spots behind the hangar for the students to park. And it's also going to be relocating the airport perimeter fence and gate in that area so that when students arrive at the airport, they can get to the parking lot without going in through any gates. That will make the airport more secure."
Cree also says he hopes the Saint Francis aircraft maintenance program will help grow the airport by generating more jobs.
Also receiving funding in our region is the Bedford County Airport.
It will be getting 100-thousand dollars to repair an existing hangar floor.
