Age, early life and rise to fame

Drew Christopher Brees was born on January 15, 1979 in Austin, Texas. He had his high school education at Westlake High School in Austin, where he was a multi-athlete who dabbled in football, baseball, and basketball. As a senior, he led his school to the 1996 Texas State 5A Championship Title and was named Offensive Player of the Year.

For his college education, Drew attended BreesPurdue University where he had a distinguished career in both the field and his academics. In 45 games for The Boilermakers, he completed 1,026 of 1,678 passes (61.1%) for 11,792 yards with 90 touchdowns. He was the all-time leader in Purdue and the Big Ten Conference in passing yards, touchdowns, and completion percentage. He also threw for more than 500 yards from his sophomore season through his senior season, making him the only player in the conference to complete such a feat in more than one season.

In recognition of his accomplishments, Brees was nominated for the Heisman Trophy in 1999 and 2000, the Davey O’Brien Trophy, and won the 2000 Maxwell Award for Outstanding Player in the Country. On the academic side, Drew Brees graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management and Manufacturing and was the inaugural winner of the Socrates Prize, awarded to the nation’s top athlete in athletics, academics and community service.

Drew’s NFL career

Drew Brees entered the 2001 NFL Draft and was a 2nd round pick by the San Diego Chargers (32nd overall pick that year). In 59 games (5 seasons) for the Chargers, he completed 1,152 of 1,809 passes for 12,348 yards with 80 touchdowns and led them to the 2004 AFC West division title. Brees left the Chargers for the New Orleans Saints in March as a free agent in 2006. The Austin native has been with the Saints since 2006 and has continued to deliver incredible performances from season to season, breaking multiple league records in the process. He has rushed for more than 4,000 yards in 12 straight years (2006-2017), becoming the first player in NFL history to do so. He has also rushed for at least 5,000 yards in five different seasons (2008, 2011, 2012, 2013,

Drew Brees is also the fourth quarterback in NFL history to tally 500 career touchdown passes. Others include Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Brett Favre. He also holds the NFL record for most yards in a single season (5476 in the 2011 season), beating Dan Marino’s 27-year record of 5084. The most memorable season for the Saints is undoubtedly the 2009 season. He graduated 363 of 514 passes for 4,388 yards and 34 touchdowns, making the Saints the Super Bowl XLIV champion. In recognition of his accomplishments, Sports Illustrated named him 2010 Sportsman of the Year, while AP named him Sportsman of the Year. He was also named the Super Bowl MVP.

To date, Drew Brees has completed 6,435 of 9,573 passes for 72,781 yards with 506 touchdowns. His 72,781 yards make him the NFL leader in overtakes. He has a Career Passer (QB) of 97.4%. With all these amazing achievements, there is no doubt that he is destined for the NFL Hall of Fame.

His capital

Drew Brees is reportedly worth $130,000,000. Much of that stems from the lucrative football deals he’s secured over the years. He also has endorsement deals with companies like Nike, PepsiCo, Verizon and Microsoft.

Brees is also quite the businessman, as has several franchised restaurants such as Dunkin Donuts. The quarterback never hesitates to use his wealth to benefit others. To date, his foundation has donated no less than $25 million to charities around the world.

family (mother)

Drew Brees comes from a family of four father, Eugene Wilson Brees II aka Chip, mother, Mina Ruth Brees (now late) and younger brother Reid. Brees’ parents (who were both lawyers) divorced when he was seven.

The star comes from a family that owns one. Famous sporting heritage. His father played college basketball at Texas A&M University while his maternal grandfather, Ray Akins, was a highly successful high school football coach. Marty Akins, Brees’ uncle, was also a successful college football player.

Brees had a strained relationship with his mother over a disagreement when he was drafted into the NFL. However, their relationship was on the mend, but sadly she passed away in August 2009 in what was later ruled a suicide.

Drew Bree’s wife and children

Brees is married to his college sweetheart, Brittany Brees (née Dudchenko). The couple, who began dating in 1999, tied the knot in 2003. They have four children together, a daughter named Rylen Judith and three sons – Baylen Robert, Bowen Christopher and Callen Christian.

Drew Brees is a man aside from his athletic ability, with a heart of gold while regularly donating his time and money to charity. He played a prominent role in rebuilding New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. He and his wife also have a foundation called Brees’ Dream Foundation which helps underprivileged children and families and helps cancer patients.

height and weight

Brees is exactly 6 feet tall and weighs 209 pounds (94.8 kg). For an NFL quarterback, Brees lacked the ideal height and arm length, which all but diminished his chances of being drafted. But with the stellar career he’s had over the years, he’s certainly proved his doubters wrong.
