Officials say the driver involved in a deadly crash in State College last year is now in federal custody.

Authorities say he was out of jail, on bail, while awaiting trial until just a few days ago.

On the night of Sept. 27th, police say Ahmed Alqubaisi reportedly lost control of his vehicle and hit and killed another student, 25-year-old Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre, who was jogging along Park Avenue, near Penn State’s campus.

Alqubaisi was charged with homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter, along with other criminal counts.

To the surprise of some, Alqubaisi was released on bail, partially because he was suspended from Penn State and wanted to continue his education at Harrisburg Community College.

This week, however, the Centre County district attorney’s office filed an emergency motion to revoke Alqubaisi's bail.

According to the DA's office, Alqubaisi is not enrolled at the Harrisburg College and has reportedly violated other bail provisions.

Officials say Alqubaisi is already being detained somewhere else as federal authorities reportedly took him into custody last week.

There is no word yet on whether federal authorities want to deport Alqubaisi, but a hearing is scheduled for later this week in Centre County court on the allegations that he violated his county bail restrictions.
