have they helped Northern Cambria Borough police?

Two types of cameras went up in several location around Northern Cambria Borough last year looking to stop crime according to officials.

The borough's chief of police Derek Stitt said some of the cameras can read license plates and check if the car is stolen or connected to any other outstanding warrants.

Stitt said in September they started putting up cameras with artificial intelligence that can recognize a person's face or clothing and search a database to see if the individual is a suspect in a case.

The system can recognize a suspect even if they change clothes according to authorities.

They said the cameras also study, record, and alert law enforcement of suspected odd movement patterns from vehicles and people.

Police said there has been issues getting the camera feed to the police station.

“Everything works fine but it's conflicting with our reporting system,” Stitt said. “We're working with two different IT agencies getting together with the information needed and I think it's going to be resolved within a week or so.”

Despite a few bumps in the road Stitt said he “absolutely” recommends the equipment for other departments.

“It definitely increases safety. The cameras are there, and people know they're there,” Stitt said. “As far as using them as a tool for investigations, that data is always running. It's 24/7, seven days a week.”

He said they have used the cameras in investigations.
