Brief biography
Brittney’s full name is Brittney Yevette Griner, and she was born on October 18, 1990 to African American parents – Raymond and Sandra Griner. There is no further information about his parents or what they do for a living. She has three older siblings – two sisters, Shkera and Pier and one brother, Decarlo Griner.
She attended Nimitz High School, where she started displaying her love for sports. First, she was a member of the school volleyball team as a freshman. During her sophomore year, she began training with the boys’ basketball team to build leg strength and prepare to learn how to dunk. This process was recorded and the video went viral online, garnering over 2.7 million views and allowing her to meet Shaquille O’Neal.
The youngster got so good that in her senior days at Nimitz High School, she led the school team to the Texas 5A Women’s Basketball State Championship Game. After high school, Griner played college basketball at Baylor University, a private Baptist college in Waco, Texas. During her college career, Brittney Griner broke some mind-blowing records. In her sophomore year, she received her First Team All-American award after averaging 23 points per game, including a career-high 40 points against Green Bay in the Sweet 16.
During her junior years, she averaged 23.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 5 blocks per game, blocking more shots than any other women’s player in the Division I team and was named AP Player of the Year.

According to her, she first told her mother, Sandra Griner, about her sexuality during her freshman year of high school, but hid it from her father, Raymond Briner, until her senior year.
