Brenda Condon: 28 Years Missing

28 years ago, today, a young Centre County mother went in to work and never came home to her family. The lack of knowledge of what happened that night has stayed with them for nearly three decades. Now, all these years later, they still have no leads, no closure and continue to seek answers.

In 1991, Brenda Condon was working at Carl's Bad Tavern in the Bellefonte area. She was scheduled to close the bar on February 27th, however the bar was found unlocked the next morning. The only traces of Brenda were her cowboy boots in the restroom and her car in the parking lot. There was no sign of struggle or foul play. There was an extensive search of the area for her and numerous interviews were conducted, but no answers.

Nearly two decades later, police issued sketches of a few of the last customers seen in the bar. Brenda's son, who asked that we not reveal his identity because of his job, says, "It's such close proximity to Interstate 80 that those composite sketches and those people could have been from anywhere."

Mr. Condon adds that the officers in charge of the case did not have much to go on, "As far as all the cases out of State College, because she was kinda the first of a little series there, those cases have all been taken care of and closed. We've had nothing. It's been just a consistent year after year."

Brenda was the mother of a 10-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son. The mystery of what occurred that night weighs heavily on their minds.

Mr. Condon says, "How do you deal with it, you know, especially at that age? It's really not something that you can process mentally when they tell you that. It’s so deeply devastating that you’re just kinda in shock."

Their family stepped in for support, but it was not the same. He says, "The family was there for us but it’s still not your mother, you know your mother’s that person that brought you into the world and nurtured nurtured you and cared for you all that time and it’s just gone."

Brenda's sister, Iris, says that Brenda has been missing for the same amount of time that she had been alive at the time of her disappearance and no more is known now than there was on the day she vanished.

Her family says their love for Brenda and hope to finally find closure is what has kept them strong during this ongoing investigation all these years. They believe somebody knows something and they hold out hope they they can soon find peace.

Her son says, "It's been a long time and you know would ease my mind to be able to know what truly transpired that night and then you know even if she is gone at least then we can move forward and have a memorial spot to to go to visit her and you know remember those times and what have you. Place to place some flowers on Memorial Day and we don’t even have that now you know at least when there’s a physical body, you have that opportunity. We don’t even have that. We just have to hang there in suspense, I guess.”

The Spring Township Police Department turned this case over to the state police.
