Authorities searching for inmate who 'walked away' from work detail in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WCAU) — The search is on for a Pennsylvania escapee.

Authorities say the inmate was on a work detail in an orchard behind the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Facility when he climbed a fence and disappeared.

He has been identified as 34-year-old Gino Hagenkotter.

Investigators say just after noon, all Philadelphia prison facilities were secured and placed in lockdown.

Hagenkotter was jailed in 2019 for violating parole on several drug, retail theft and burglary charges.

Schools in the area were also asked to shelter in place.
