Altoona man faces multiple felony charges for alleged rape of unconscious woman
Authorities say a 42-year-old Altoona man has been charged with allegedly raping a woman at her home in March.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, the woman told authorities that she was at the Kettle Inn Bar and Grill in Altoona, on March 18, when Robert German, and another man, joined her and her friends.
The woman told police that she remembered buying a round of drinks for the group and started to sense that something was off with the encounter, according to the affidavit.
Her next memory, she told authorities, was waking up naked in her bed the next morning, with German standing next to her, according to the affidavit.
During the encounter, German allegedly put $300 on a nightstand and told the woman the money was for her to help with bills, according to the affidavit.
The woman told police that the amount of alcohol that she drank would not have caused her to lose her memory. She was treated at UPMC Altoona.
German has been charged with first-degree felony rape of an unconscious victim, second-degree felony sexual assault, second-degree felony assault without consent and misdemeanor indecent assault of an unconscious person.
He was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger, of Martinsburg, and was sent to the Blair County Prison in lieu of a $400,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 30 before District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio, of Altoona.
An online court docket did not list an attorney for German Monday afternoon.
